Potable Water Trailers

Drinking Water Transport Solutions for Job Sites and Events

Our potable water trailer line is built to move drinking water wherever you need it—remote job sites, work camps, events, fire stations, and emergency response. Each potable water tank trailer uses an algae-resistant polyethylene tank, food-grade hoses, and a stainless-steel pump so your water stays clean from fill to discharge. Trailers are DOT-compliant for highway towing and available in sizes from 550 gallon potable water trailer models up to 800, 1,025, 1,600, and 2,010 gallon potable water wagons.

Potable Water Trailer Detail

The standard 550 gallon potable water trailer combines a low-profile algae-resistant tank with a heavy-duty DOT trailer. A Honda engine drives a 2" stainless steel transfer pump (NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 certified), delivering up to 180 gallons per minute. All plumbing and hoses are food-grade and compatible with potable drinking water. An anti-siphon fill kit and included suction hose make it easy to pull water from hydrants or approved tanks without risking contamination.

While the trailer frame itself is not NSF certified, every wet component—tank, pump, hoses, and fittings—is manufactured from FDA and NSF/ANSI compliant materials for potable water use. That makes this portable drinking water trailer ideal for job sites where inspectors and safety managers expect documentation and clear separation between potable and non-potable systems.

Larger potable water tank trailer sizes (800, 1,025, 1,600, and 2,010 gallons) are available to match bigger fill requirements or to reduce trips between source and site. For high-capacity projects, pair multiple potable trailers or combine with static storage tanks for a complete mobile water distribution system.

Potable Water Trailer Applications

Portable Drinking Water for Remote Sites

Use a portable potable water trailer to supply clean drinking water to remote construction sites, drilling locations, mobile offices, RV parks, and temporary camps. The 550 gallon model is large enough to reduce refill trips while staying easy to maneuver in tight access areas.

Emergency & Disaster Response

In emergency response operations, a potable water tank trailer can be staged as a mobile hydration point for crews and the public. Connect garden hoses to handwash stations, hand sanitizer refill points, or portable tanks for shelters and relief centers.

Agriculture & Livestock Support

For farms and ranches, the potable trailer doubles as a drinking water wagon for livestock or workers in the field. Pull the potable water trailer behind a pickup to refill troughs, supply spray rigs, or top off nurse tanks where no permanent water line is available.

Events, Parks & Recreation

Outdoor events, festivals, and parks often need temporary potable water distribution. A potable water wagon can feed food vendors, hand-wash stations, or portable restroom tanks without tying into municipal lines, then tow back to a central fill point when empty.

Fire Fighting & Hot Work Support

Pair a potable water trailer with hose reel and spray bar to support urban interface fire crews or hot work operations. While the system is designed for drinking water, many departments stage a potable water trailer for fire support so they can quickly fill dump tanks, maintain rehab stations, or provide potable water to crews on extended incidents.

Looking for larger capacity? We also offer 800, 1,025, 1,600, and 2,010 gallon potable water trailers. Contact us to size the right potable water trailer for your application or explore our full lineup on the All Water Trailers page.

Potable Water Trailer FAQs

What is a potable water trailer?

A potable water trailer is a DOT-compliant trailer with an algae-resistant tank, food-grade hoses, and a certified pump designed specifically for hauling and dispensing drinking water. Our potable water tank trailers use FDA and NSF/ANSI compliant components so they can safely supply water to people, handwash stations, showers, and portable restrooms.

Is the 550 gallon potable water trailer approved for drinking water?

Yes. While the trailer frame itself is not NSF certified, the 550 gallon potable water tank, stainless steel pump, hoses, and all wetted plumbing components are FDA and NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 compliant for potable water use.

What sizes of potable water tank trailers are available?

Our standard potable water trailer line includes a 550 gallon potable water trailer plus larger 800, 1,025, 1,600, and 2,010 gallon potable water trailers. This lets you match trailer capacity to the number of people or fixtures you need to serve.

What applications are potable water trailers used for?

Common uses include supplying drinking water to construction sites and drilling rigs, filling handwash and shower stations, supporting disaster and emergency response, watering livestock, feeding portable restroom tanks, and providing temporary potable water at events, camps, and remote facilities.

Can I tow the potable water trailer on public roads?

Yes. Each potable water trailer is built as a DOT-approved trailer with recessed LED lighting, safety chains, fenders, brakes, and an adjustable ball or pintle hitch so it can be legally towed on highways when loaded within its GVWR.

What kind of pump is included on the potable water trailer?

The standard 550 gallon potable water trailer includes a 2" stainless steel transfer pump driven by a Honda engine. The pump and fittings are certified to NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 for drinking water and can deliver up to 180 gallons per minute for fast fills.

How do I fill the potable water trailer tank?

Trailers are equipped with a 2" anti-siphon fill kit and 20' suction hose for drawing water from approved hydrants or storage tanks. You can also fill through the tank manway if a gravity connection is available.

Can the potable water trailer discharge by gravity only?

Yes. In addition to pump discharge, the potable water tank trailer includes gravity outlets and garden-hose spigots. A pumpless, gravity-flow potable trailer configuration is also available if you do not need a powered pump.

Is the potable water trailer suitable for freezing climates?

The tank and plumbing are designed for outdoor use, but in freezing conditions the potable water trailer should be drained or protected. Many customers stage trailers in heated bays or add heat-trace and insulation to minimize freeze risk. Ask our team about cold-weather potable water solutions if you expect regular sub-freezing temps.

How do I choose the right potable water trailer size?

Start with how many people or fixtures you need to serve and how often you can refill. For small crews and short-term jobs, a 550 gallon potable water trailer is usually enough. For larger camps, extended emergency response, or multiple handwash / shower trailers, we recommend stepping up to 800, 1,025, 1,600, or 2,010 gallon potable water trailers or using multiple units in rotation.
