Fire Protection Tanks

Building on fire

NFPA 22 Fire Protection Water Tanks (Bolted, Corrugated, Fiberglass, Welded)

Protect people, property, and business operations with engineered fire water storage from 5,000 to 3,900,000 gallons. One Clarion delivers above-ground and underground fire suppression tanks (FSTs) with sealed engineered drawings (as required). Tanks come in different materials for unique needs. All tanks meet NFPA 22 and AWWA D103 (or equivalent) standards. Interior tank liners meet NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 requirements for potable water storage.

Why One Clarion for Fire Water Storage

  • Conforms to Code: Our products meet NFPA 22 and your AHJ’s (Authority Having Jurisdiction; normally a fire marshal) requirements. Manufacturer-sealed drawings provided for AHJ review (customer coordinates with AHJ).
  • Multiple tank technologies: Bolted steel, corrugated panel tanks, fiberglass tanks, and welded steel. We supply you with the tank you need.
  • Mission-ready configurations: Wind/seismic rated designs, freeze protection, and appurtenances per NFPA 22—ready for industrial, healthcare, education, logistics, residential development, data centers, and more.
  • Scale and speed: Modular systems ship globally and assemble quickly on prepared foundations.
  • Quick Installation: We can coordinate installation with our experienced installation partners or provide a project lead to oversee the tank installation.

What “NFPA 22 Compliant” Means—In Practice

NFPA 22 is the standard governing the design and installation of water tanks for private fire protection. Your AHJ—typically a fire marshal, though sometimes a building official or an insurer—sets the requirements to be met and approves the fire protection tank design. This means that your AHJ has the final say on what meets the requirements for your fire protection tank installation. One Clarion provides sealed drawings, product data, and firefighting tank material options to support that acceptance.

Tank Types & Typical Use Cases

Bolted Steel (AWWA D103) — Above Ground Storage Tank

Best for: Use cases where there is heavy snow loading or a need for modularity. Highlights: Large capacities (up to 3.9 million gallons). Meets NFPA 22 regulations. Snow load options available. Modular design. Regulated by AWWA D103 reference.

Corrugated Panel Tanks — Above Ground Storage Tank

Best for: Use cases where cost-efficiency and quick installation is key. Highlights: Corrosion resistant panels. Wide range of NFPA accessories. Documented NFPA 22 equivalency for AHJ acceptance.

Fiberglass (FRP) — Above Ground Storage Tank or Below Grade

Best for: Corrosive environments (coastal/industrial), low maintenance, custom designs. Highlights: Corrosion resistant, custom designed, lightweight. Designed to your needs. AWWA D120 reference

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these “NFPA 22 approved” tanks?

While the NFPA does not “approve” products, our NFPA 22 tanks comply with the installation restrictions and requirements set by the NFPA for fire water storage systems. Explore the regulations here or contact us for more information.

What standards apply to bolted steel and fiberglass tanks?

Bolted steel tanks are built to AWWA D103. Fiberglass tanks follow AWWA D120 and relevant ASTM specifications, with installation aligned to NFPA 22.

Can corrugated tanks be used for fire protection?

Yes—when engineered and documented for NFPA 22 equivalency and accepted by your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction).

Do you provide engineered drawings and PE stamps?

We can provide sealed engineered drawings.
